Great Barrier Island (Aotea) lies 90 km northeast of Auckland.  There is a regular schedule of flights and ferries to and from the island.  Timetables change for winter and summer.  Although there is no public transport system on the island a regular bus service runs between Tryphena and Port FitzRoy once a day and shuttles, taxis, rental cars, 4wd, vans and tour buses are available.
