Port FitzRoyPort FitzRoy is named after the first Governor, Robert FitzRoy and spelt by the Captain with a capital 'R' apparently to emphasize his descent from Charles FitzRoy, first Duke of Southampton.

Okiwi
Okiwi, a traditional Maori place name that means
'the place of the kiwi' although kiwi
are not known to have inhabited this area.

Akapoua Bay DoC Campground Situated right at the harbour edge, a 10min walk to the Port FitzRoy wharf and shop.  Access to many short walks and day hikes.  Trees for shade.  Cold showers, toilets. Ph 09 4290 044

Kaiaraara Bay Hut  (DoC)  Located at the beginning of the Mt Hirakimata (Hobson) track, Port FitzRoy.  Ph 09 4290 044

Whangapoua DoC Campground Situated near Okiwi airfield, on the Whangapoua estuary.  No shade or shelter, open showers, toilets.  Ph 09 4290 044
